Photographs

Glass, like water, bears the contradictory and transformational qualities of transparency and reflection. Entirely dependent on the external conditions of light and distance, glass can either allow vision to pass through unhindered, or reflect it back. Inside the world of a photograph, the spaces visible in reflections exist beyond the frame; they “do not exist” from the perspective of photography. In this way glass can complicate and transform spatial relationships within photographs, and take on an element of magic. By focusing on the transformational qualities of glass, I was able to capture images that hold multiple perspectives and spaces within a single frame, capturing the effect of collage without needing to overlay images together.
